LET'S PLAY POKER
(Greg Tamblyn)
Something 'bout her set my crazy lonesome heart on fire
I pursued her with a passion born of deep desire
One day finally she agreed to be my wife and lover
If I would only meet and ask her hand from her sweet mother
This old gal was quite a chilling sight to say the least
She smoked cigars and drank it straight and cut right to the chase
"When it's time to work, we work, and then boy we play hard
So sit down son 'cause in this family what we play is cards"
Deuces, nines, one-eyed jacks, split-beard kings are wild
The 4 of clubs is the ace of spades if you're holding it with a five
The queen of diamonds and the king of hearts are no good with a joker
So ante up, Jack, cut the pack, and let's play poker
I’m no stranger to the strange, but it sure struck me funny
That I'd be playing poker with the mother of my honey
My bride to be encouraged me to humor her old mom
She felt it was important that we all get along
Mom dealt me some hands till I'd learned enough to win
And then she said "It's more fun, son, if we throw money in"
Not long after that the game became much less amusing
'Cause I was playing mom for real cash, and I was losing
Deuces, nines, one-eyed jacks, split-beard kings are wild
Eights and Aces beat three faces if you stay alive
A pair of threes lets you freeze the pot and start all over
So ante up, Jack, cut the pack, and let's play poker
Small bets turned to big ones as daylight turned to dark
By morning I had lost it all to that old female shark
Including any chance I had of marrying her daughter
So I slunk home a poorer man but I hope maybe smarter
Then one day six months later in some dusty old saloon
I heard a fella call a game of cards across the room
He said "I'm dealin' boys, the strangest game you ever saw
I learned this one the hard way from my ex-future-mother-in-law"
Deuces, nines, one-eyed jacks, split-beard kings are wild
Triplets lose to twos on Tuesdays when the moon is high
The house gets half your bet if you forget to use a coaster
So ante up, Jack, cut the pack, and let's play poker
