Swearing, Not Sweating

Are you like me? When something goes wrong do you sometimes drop a curse-bomb and then feel embarrassed about it? Well friends, cringe no more. Here's your good news for August: Swearing Makes You Stronger.

Yep, according to new studies, swearing is linked with increased pain tolerance and strength. It activates adrenaline and the fight or flight response. In addition, swearing has been linked to:

  • bolstered social bonds
  • improved memory
  • even alleviating the social pain of exclusion or rejection.

So...got a broken heart?  Forgot where you put stuff?  Not invited to the party?  Drop something on your foot?  Want to lift weight more easily?

As you can see, there are many reasons to be cussing up a storm!

You've heard of laughter yoga, right? Well don't be surprised if pretty soon the next room at the yoga center is full of people practicing  #&%*#$ Yoga.

In fact, I might just trademark that right now.

Swearing Not Sweating. Maybe that's my next t-shirt. Would you buy it?

Musical Question: if swearing has so many benefits, does this explain the popularity of rap and hip-hop?

Awkward Question: if taking the Lord's name in vain is bad, how come it makes you stronger?

One Thing That Definitely Makes You Happier

Sleep! That's right, sleep. Including naps.

Sleep also helps prevent brain shrinkage as we age. And who wants brain shrinkage? I know mine is small enough already.

Therefore, I can sum up my new wellness program in one word: Siesta!

Hopefully this blog post doesn't put you to sleep. But if it does, well, that's good.

Creating this series has been way more work than I thought, but also really joyful. I'm excited to share it with you.

Because spirituality should be fun, damn it!  (Oooh, that felt good.)

Thanks for all your good title ideas - I still haven't picked one. I guess I'm too picky.  Either way I hope to invite you to the show soon - maybe even in a couple of weeks.

The overall tone of the series? Let's just say it's the opposite of this church here in KC MO:

Is that a crazy name or what?!

But wait.... maybe they do a lot of swearing there?

Note to self: check this place out next Sunday.

Lastly…

One more quick thing! Click on the photo for a short, feel-good video from WGN-TV news in Chicago. It's about my great nephew Louie. Be sure and turn on the sound. (There's a link at the bottom of the article under the video. Use it if so moved…)

Thanks for reading!  😄
